Fly rod building can be fun and rewarding. If you tie flies, this is the next logical step for you. The bamboo process is perhaps not for beginners, but you can build a quality fly rod on a graphite blank from just about any of the top manufacturers. I conduct classes on building your own fly rod, and my students complete their rod in three evenings over a three week period. I provide all the tools and materials they need to do a good job, and to a man, every one of them is thrilled with their rod. One reason for that is I don’t offer pre-assembled kits with cheap components. We build on St. Croix, G Loomis, Sage, or even T & T. I work in the Lake Norman area of North Carolina. Just a few hours’ drive to the trout streams of the Smokies & Blue Ridge Mountains. Check out my blog-http://gfrods.wordpress.com.
